Last modified: 2012-05-21 16:33:40 UTC
Created attachment 77360 [details] RU_Print_Menu_bug.pdf Also it seems need addtioanal issue - is it release stoppper for Apache OpenOffice 3.4.0? The problem is concerning Print menu for Russian lang pack (with English lang User Interface activated the problem does't take place): For Print menu settings there are absence "Range and Copies" fileds like here (https://issues.apache.org/ooo/attachment.cgi?id=77355) for the Writer, Calc (see attached file RU_Print_Menu_bug.pdf) And also absent OpenOffice.org Writer, ... Calc, Math tabs of Print menu There is no such problem for Impress, Draw Print menu items and tabs. Also I don't see such problem with OpenOffice-3.3.0
It take place for AOO340m1 (Build:9589) Rev. 1303653 22 march 2012
I can confirm quite same kind of problem with Finnish langpack and Math. For Writer and Calc it seems that some tooltip text is in UI and dialog is extreme broad. Different kind bug?
As I found it for my Gentoo Linux system I also cheked it for Windows XP multilanguage intallation set. The results are represented bellow: Lang Pack that affected by this bug (Please recheck ity for you native lang.): 1. Chinese (simplified) yes (seems only Writer) 2. Chinese (traditional) yes (seems only Writer) 3. Chech no 4. Dutch (Netherland) no 5. Finnish no (but it has too long dialog Print window) 6. French (France) yes 7. German (Germany) no 8. Hungarian yes 9. Italian (Italy) yes (seems only Writer) 10. Japanese yes 11. Portuguese (Brazil) yes (also many menu items are not translated!) strange Print - OpenOffice.prg Math menu 12. Russian yes 13. Spanish (Spain) yes Also please check (as I don't know languages from the all list) the correspond tab-menu of Print dialog such as OpenOffice.org Writer, OpenOffice.org Calc, OpenOffice.org Math etc. (especialy Print - OpenOffice.org Math tab-menu - for some lang. it look like "Page Layout" tab, e.g. for Portuguese (Brazil), Italian etc.), to correspondence of English menu, I suggest and it seems there are errors represented of this dialogs. Or it seems that OpenOffice.org Math tab-menu is replaced for "Page Layout" for some reason. And for English and Genram there are no any Page Layout at all for "Math" Print dialog
(In reply to comment #2) > I can confirm quite same kind of problem with Finnish langpack and Math. For > Writer and Calc it seems that some tooltip text is in UI and dialog is extreme > broad. Different kind bug? Similar issue that you observe is discussing on https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=116639
I can confirm it under win7 with Hungarian langpack.
Windows XP sp3 Prof. Russian AOO340m1(Build:9589) rev. 1303653, Russian UI I confirm it with: Writer, Calc, Math. I don't confirm with: Draw, Impress.
Slackware-13.37, 32bit AOO340m1(Build:9589) rev. 1303653, Russian UI I confirm it with: Writer, Calc, Math. I don't confirm it with: Draw, Impress.
Debugging shows that the constructor of SwPrintUIOptions does not handle it gracefully when a language does not have all entries of PRINTOPTUI translated... Run grep PRINTOPTUI extras/l10n/source/#lang#/localize.sdf to see which of the thirty entries are missing and add them.
As of today only these languages have translation entries for all the thirty PRINTOPTUI items: ar, bg, cs, cy, da, de, en-GB, en-US, es, fa, fi, fr, gl, hu, is, it, ja, lv, nb, nl, pt-BR, ru, sl, ug, zh-CN, zh-TW
Wouldn't it be possible to copy the English original into missing translations? I know this would break the Pootle workflow and statistics, but crippling functionality because of a few missing translations should not happen. From the user's point of view, this seems the best solution (they will just see English strings).
CC'ed our new pootle expert for Andrea's question.
no, adding the English strings in Pootle or the po/sdf files instead is not a good idea from my perspective. The question is more why not English is used as default anyway if missing strings are detected. en-US is always present. but this a different problem and has to be analyzed separately, in some case it works. But we have many different sources for localized strings ...
